What is permanence anyway?
This discussion considers the theme of transience in Cecilia Vicuña’s precarios and quipus.
Readings include "Sailing to Byzantium" by William Butler Yeats, a chapter from Julia Bryan-Wilson's Fray: Art and Textile Politics, and a poem by Cecilia Vicuña.
Mia Liu is associate professor of History of Art and Visual Culture at California College of the Arts. She is currently a Getty Scholar (2020-2021) at the Getty Research Center, working on a book manuscript on the inter-medium dialogues between photography and ink painting in modern China.
This is the second event in our year-long season dedicated to thinking about our contemporary moment through the lens of Cecilia Vicuña's work.
