The Exhibition Program
The Wattis trusts, supports, and centers artists. As an exhibition venue, the Wattis places an emphasis on solo shows of new and existing work by artists from around the world, forming a bridge that connects CCA and the Bay Area with a national and international dialogue around contemporary art.

As an exhibition venue, the Wattis Institute:

- displays art in its public galleries

- asks artists: what are you making now and what do you want to make next?

- introduces major international artists to American audiences with their first solo show in the United States

- encourages mid-career and established artists to take a new direction or experiment with new approaches

- commissions new work or new bodies of work by emerging artists, supporting them at an early stage in their career

- features specific bodies of work by mature yet under-recognized artists

- highlights the work of local artists, providing them with national and international visibility

- invites the annual Capp Street Artist-in-Residence to show their work or curate an exhibition

- hosts the final project of each graduating class in CCA's Graduate Program in Curatorial Practice.

- includes major thematic group shows
