Black Light was an exhibition held at the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts in San Francisco in 2017. It centered on discussions about community-building and creative invention among black artists related to cultural institutions. At the core of the book are four conversations: Robyn Hillman-Harrigan, Daniella Rose King, Simone Leigh, Nontsikelelo Mutiti, and Alexandria Smith discuss Black Women Artists for Black Lives Matter (New York); Dale Brockman Davis recalls the Brockman Gallery (Los Angeles); Rasheedah Phillips examines Community Futures Lab (Philadelphia); and Karon Davis talks about The Underground Museum (Los Angeles). It includes as well a consideration of a painting by Rodney McMillian, an original artwork by Robyn Hillman-Harrigan, essays, poems, posters, and other documentation.
