Ours is an era of the immaterial, the digital, and the infinitely fluid. Or so they say.

In her recent essay on Seth Price, the critic Michelle Kuo, editor in chief of Artforum magazine, argues that his works are not weightless but mired in matter. They have drag. While some embrace speed and acceleration, Price does not yield.

The picture is never just effect, phantom limb, simulacrum, circulation, redistribution. It is also violently material, she writes.

Kuo begins our season with Seth Price as our inaugural speaker, giving an overview and sharing her perspective on his work.

This is the first event in our year-long season about and around the work of Seth Price.
